550-Ton Air Handler Twin Fan Replacement

image

This project was one of Norman Sheet Metal & Mechanical's most challenging equipment replacement projects. The scope of work included building a temporary wall between two existing 110,000 CFM fans inside of a 550-ton air handler, cutting up the old fans one at a time for removal, partially dismantling the economizer section of the system for unit access, and ordering the new fans custom built in sections to be assembled in place. All of this was necessary since the air handler was located two stories below ground, and was not able to be completely shut down throughout the entire duration of the project. The project was successfully completed in 50% of the project engineers estimated schedule, within budget, with no required change orders, without incident.

Dehumidification & Explosion Proof Exhaust Systems Upgrade

This project entailed the upgrade of eight large volume production floor dehumidification systems, a computer server room cooling system, and a 100% outside air / exhaust system serving an explosion proof solvent mixing and storage area. We met the challenge of the plants extremely strict fire prevention, EPA compliance, and OSHA workers safety policies. In an effort to maintain a safe working environment, we implemented a constant fire watch during open flame brazing, and avoided rigging the new equipment over the occupied plant during working hours, by closing down New Jersey State Highway Route 34 and setting up the crane in the slow lane and shoulder of the road. The project was completed within budget, estimated schedule, and without incident or injury.
